The Tuparro National Natural Park, the only protected area that conserves representative samples of the ecosystems of the Orinoquia and the eastern plains, provides the service of water regulation and water recharge with the Tomo, Tuparro and Caño Maipures rivers, and their flat and floodable territories that They allow the economic development of Vichada, as well as the provision of fish food for the population of Cumaribo and La Primavera.
It is recognized for its scenic beauty with sites such as the Raudal de Maypures and crystalline rock outcrops of the Guyanese Shield that generate benefits for the 500 tourists who visit the park, as well as the surrounding population. It also maintains an important cultural heritage and cultural values with the Sikuanis (Guahibo), Cuivas, Mapayeris, Curripacos and Puinaves indigenous groups.
Declared a National Monument and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, the El Tuparro National Natural Park is located in the Vichada department, and is fed by the Orinoco, Tomo and Tuparro rivers, from which the name of the Park was extracted.
