The Pedro Palo Lake, two hours away form Bogotá is located in the Tena Municipality, and is a sacred site with a strong cultural and ancestral importance. It is surrounded by an andean tropical forest on one side and by crops and plantations on the other.

The Lake is the subject of old tales and legends and it was one of the first destinations of the Royal Botanical Expedition to New Granada more than two centuries ago. Today it is safeguarded by a family who’s made its purpose in life to protect it.

In this day trip, you’ll arrive to a campesina house with an organic farm which you can interact with. Between hundreds of birds, you can watch 39 registered species in the area, one of them the Black Inca Hummingbird –Coeligena prunellei–.

In a hike to the viewpoint led by a local guide you’ll get to know the stories about the lake while appreciating the native vegetation, and the beautiful landscapes.

Because of its venerated status, this landscape hasn’t been intervened and only indigenous communities can enter the lake for sacred, cultural rites.
