From October 1 to 31, 2025, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta will rest to preserve its ecosystem and maintain spiritual balance with the ancestral communities.

Lost City, one of the most magical destinations in Colombia, will temporarily close from October 1 to 31, 2025. This annual pause is not just any interruption: it is an act of respect towards the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, its ecosystem, and the indigenous communities that inhabit and protect it.

🌿 Why is Lost City closing?

The closure is a joint decision between National Parks and the four indigenous communities of the region (Koguis, Arhuacos, Wiwas, and Kankuamos), who consider Lost City a sacred place. During this month, they perform rituals of cleansing, healing, and spiritual harmonization to preserve the balance between nature, history, and humankind.

It is also an opportunity for the mountain to rest from tourism, helping to protect the trails, reduce environmental impact, and conserve the unique biodiversity of the area.

📆 What is the last available departure before the closure?

The last 3-night trip will depart on September 27, 2025, so visitors can return before the site enters its resting period. The next trip will be on November 1, 2025.
